Boffer Sword Tournaments Guidelines

Who Can become a member of the Sword Fighters Guild?
These Events are open to all individuals be they from a Junior or High School, College Gaming Club, NERO LARP Chapter, any other LARP game, Fencing Club member, Martial Artist, SCA member, etc.. We hope to grow the participation throughout 2005 and beyond. Come Join The Fun.

Signup for the Boffer Sword Tournament, Champion Challenge, or Warrior Tests can be done online, at the Game Store, or At-The-Door to the event. Those who have signed up online are assured participation in the first round sword fighting tournament.

Independent Tournaments are run by NERO Knights that take it upon themselves to fund, organize, promote and conduct Sword Fighter’s Guild Tournaments outside of conventions and NERO Events. They may be run in conjunction with game store promotional events and college campus demonstrations, or completely on their own. Anyone interested in running Independent SFG Tournaments will be given a handbook.

Boffer Sword Tournament Event Information
Begin Saturday at 1pm with tournaments every 2 hours.
Prizes for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd places!
Each Tournament may have a maximum of 32 participants. 64 is too big. Multiple Tournaments will be run if enough people want to enter.

Article In-Game Created… If a NERO LARP player wins an Article will be created, with player approval, which will detail the success of an in-game tournament won by the NERO LARP Players character. If the winner is not a NERO member with NERO Character, the staff can go a far as they would like, but it is generally best to ask them what there character name would be if they played a LARP.

LARP Magazine: Sword Fighting Guilds are encouraged to submit an article to the LARP magazine, which details tournaments, schedules, and winners.

3rd Place: Discount Voucher for $20 off at any NERO Avendale, Ashbury, or Neridia event.
Note: Game Stores can ADD or Substitute merchandise as well – Collectible Cards, Game Books, Video Games, etc.

Boffer Sword Tournament Rules:

• Only a single Long Sword shall be used. The length of the Sword shall not exceed 50 inches, and may not be shorter than 36 Inches. Latex Swords or Light Touch Boffer Weapons will be provided.
• First round opponents are decided by random via names drawn from a hat, cards drawn from a deck, or dice rolled, etc. All other opponents are determined according to the chart.
• All bouts are to 5 successful hits.
• Once a legal hit is made, both sides must disengage. The hit is to be acknowledged with a nod, by voice, or via other acknowledgement to the referee, and the referee will allow them engage again.
• The referee will call “hit” when a hit is made. These tournaments are also bound by the honor system, and thus contestants are expected to acknowledge a hit even if the referee misses it.
• We do not allow ‘flurrying’ against an opponent. You are Flurrying when you engage in more than 5 swings against your opponent before disengaging (and/or blocking) for 3 seconds. Think of the duel as a display of your control and skill with a sword not simply your ability to swing it quickly.
• Single Elimination – Once you loose a single bout you are eliminated from the tournament.
• Light Touch – Try to Swing the Sword as if it had a bit of weight to it; do not swing it like a baseball bat or tennis racket.
• Wild Swings are not permitted and will not be tolerated.
• Do not Charge forward toward your opponent in an effort to scare them. If you get too close, back away a step or two. All actions in the arena must be controlled and with the idea of making not only yourself look good but your opponent as well. We fight honorably.
Illegal blows, which do not count, are to the head, neck, groin, hands, feet, and breasts.

Boffer Weapons provided.
Personal Duels and Champion Challenges can be with any combat style: Single Sword, Sword and Shield, Two handed Sword.
